Re: strange substitutions
Bringing on Collins for Noble would still have disrupted two parts of the team so is arguably not sensible.

Bringing on JOB for Noble would have been a straight swop.

Re: strange substitutions
Noble had to come off before he got sent off (as he should have been for a second yellow)

The time when he should have received a second yellow was a reckless (& pointless) challenge which showed a total lack of discipline

To substite him for CFC seemed bizarre to me & I fail to see any logic in replacing a hard-working central midfielder for a slow lazy forward (who contributed absolutely nothing as it turned out)

Unless Valencia was injured, there was no reason to sub him (he was causing Spurs defenders all sorts of problems all afternoon)
Jarvis was, like CFC, ineffective

Collins should have come on for Noble, which would have been the only sensible substitution

Re: strange substitutions
Sam said earlier that we need to stop throwing games away. You would have thought he'd realised that before today with his years of experienced and sophistication.

No-one can ever agree on subs here- some slate him for bringing on attackers, some slate him for bringing on defenders. Someone suggested O'Brien should have come on- if he had, someone else would have slated him for it"

Have you found 1 person who agreed with Cole for Noble?

Re: strange substitutions
Noble off, Collins on, Tomkins into CDM. Simple.

Re: strange substitutions
Totally ridiculous substitutions. I can't argue that it was right to bring Noble off but for CFC??

I can only console myself with the fact that we may not have many more games of Sam's tactical genius as I'm sure he won't be there next year.

Re: strange substitutions
As has been stated several times. Most peoples view is:

1) fine, noble potential red, so had to come off. Fair enough, reasonable viewpoint.

2) not fine, bringing on Cole, who does nothing at all except foul. So many options ahead of that bizarre sub - Collins and Tomkins into holding role and song forward, jarvis on for 442, Collins on for 532, demel right back and jenkinson right mid for 442 (been done before in games), and so on.

Alardyce just pulled another alardyce. Just like Carroll to right wing against Southampton.

End of fucking thread.

Dicksie has got an embolism.

Who on the bench isn't a two bob championship cunt?

Re: strange substitutions
IMO Noble lost us the game today by not leading by example.

His sulky reaction was embarrassing as well.

If Kane hadn't dived, it wouldn't be an issue. That's what decided the game- not any of the subs.

Rodfarts 7:33 Sun Feb 22
Re: strange substitutions
What people should be most concerned about is Noble lunging around trying to be a super hero when we were 2-0 up and he was on a yellow card.

27 years old and he still can't show enough experience to see a game like this out shows not only his lack of discipline and defensive ability but also shows the reason why he should never be a captain.

YOU BRING-ON CHAMPIONSHIP, TWO BOB CUNT PLAYERS...

Re: strange substitutions
The funny thing is that if Noble had got sent off there would have been no end of posts saying "why didn't he make a sub, it was obvious he was getting a red"?

GreenStreetPlayer 7:24 Sun Feb 22
Re: strange substitutions
Go two nil up, completely in charge, everyone was looking good, and he decided to take Noble off. On comes Cole and disrupts the team.
He should have left things as they were. IF Noble had got sent off soon after, then he could have brought Collins on and taken a forward off.
That wasn't Allardyce's preferred starting line up today, but the fans know it's the best we have.
His decision making is the reason he has to go.

BigLump 7:22 Sun Feb 22
Re: strange substitutions
penners.

Think most in the ground were in agreemnet that noble has pushed his luck.

Short of putting Jaskalaninen on instead, i cant think of a more tactically inept decision the fat bloke could have made.

penners28 7:18 Sun Feb 22
Re: strange substitutions
If he hadnt subbed noble people would be moaning that he'd left him on. After that challenge his card was marked. Are we saying noble wouldnt have given at least 1 more foul away for the rest of the game. One more foul would have meant a red.

ATBOG 7:18 Sun Feb 22
Re: strange substitutions
If allardyce was a proper manager he would have played Jarvis on the right from the day he signed him & cut out the "cutting in" bollocks that fucked up our season last year. This would've resulted in Jarvis playing to his natural strengths, being more confident, having more game time & being able to adopt a place on the right today when Noble needed to come off, with Kouyate & Song in the middle & downing on the left. A well balanced midfield. But he's not a proper manager.
